Botox® is designed to work on dynamic wrinkles – the wrinkles, lines and creases that form when we make facial expressions, like laughing or frowning. When we make an expression, our brain sends a message via nerves to the facial muscles ordering them to contract. When they contract, they pull the skin, and over time, repeated contractions can result in the etched lines and wrinkles we see near our eyes (crow's feet), between the brows and on the forehead. Botox® works by blocking the nerve signals between the brain and the facial muscles so contractions are prevented and lines and wrinkles are unable to form. Over time with repeated treatments, etched lines and wrinkles begin to fade and become less noticeable.
Dermal or cosmetic fillers are used fill in wrinkles, lines and scars, helping skin appear firmer and smoother. Unlike dynamic wrinkles, these wrinkles form as a result of age and environmental exposure. The skin begins to lose volume and elasticity, resulting in sagging and wrinkling. Fillers fill in these areas and add volume and plumpness to cheeks and lips as well. Plus, they help stimulate the production of collagen that tends to decline as we get older.
We offer Juvederm® Ultra, Juvederm® Voluma XC, Restylane® and Radiesse® for our patients. These fillers represent the pinnacle of facial fillers and can be used to treat virtually the entire face area, as well as areas of the neck and jowls, and decolletage (cleavage creases). Some fillers can even be used on the backs of the hands to fill in depressions and sagging areas and help hands look firmer, plumper and younger. They can also be used in combination with Botox® to achieve an all-over refreshed and rejuvenated appearance.
